This home is located on Queen Anne hill in Seattle, Washington. It was very important to the owners that the remodel retain the overall scale and feel of the original 1920’s residence. To achieve this, we removed most of the existing roof and added two shed dormers on the upper floor. This allowed use of the former attic space as a master suite. By adding decorative coffered beams in the living room ceiling, we were able to support the additional building loads that are imposed by the new master suite. We cut the beams into the original plaster cove moldings for a seamless remodel that looks like part of the original construction. The remodeled home retains its quaint character from the street while capturing important usable space in the attic.
